History of Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)
CPUT is a relatively young university, established on January 1, 2005 at the merging of Cape Technikon and Peninsula Technikon, as a response to higher education transformations taking place nationwide that sought to fix imbalances in universities. It is currently the only university of technology in the Western Cape and the largest university in the region with over 30,000 students, multiple campuses, and over 70 programs in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The six faculties cross the areas of Applied Sciences, Business, Education and Social Sciences, Engineering, Informatics and Design, and Health and Wellness Sciences. The two former universities that culminated into CPUT date back to the early 1900s. A review of statistics including areas of study, race, faculty, etc. can be found here. Student Life at CPUT
Students who study at CPUT are offered a diverse variety of opportunities as far as areas of study as well as activities to get involved with. There is a focus on student wellness, both in regards to academics and a students impact on the surrounding community. There is a focus on supporting students in their first year on campus that offers advice in areas such as goal setting, personal budgeting, note taking, time management, and adjusting to campus life. It appears that CPUT continues to offer support services through a students entire time on campus. Below is a video highlighting some accomplished CPUT students.
